In 2017 behaalde Laura De Bruyn (°1994) haar Master viool aan het Gentse Conservatorium. In juni 2018 behaalde ze haar lerarendiploma en ze studeerde daarnaast dat jaar ook nog viool aan het IMEP te Namen bij Marc Danel (Quatuor Danel). Bij hem volgde ze les en masterclasses, net als ze dat de afgelopen jaren ook deed bij Daniel Hope, Marc Danel, Gilles Millet (Quatuor Danel), David Waterman, Philippe Graffin (ter gelegenheid van de Imuse - Rencontres Musicales Internationales D'Enghien), Petr Holman (Zemlinsky Quartet), Marek Kowalski, Vineta Sareika (Artemis Quartett), Céline Di Fabio en Vegard Nilsen. Haar eerste vioollessen als kind kreeg ze van Wietse Beels (Taurus Quartet), André Delcourte en Saskia Van Keer (concertmeester OVSO). Voor zang volgde ze al lessen bij Rita Piron, Tineke Van Ingelgem en Bart De Kegel. Zangmasterclasses bij oa. Daniel Ottevaere en Nadine Denize.
In een aantal muzikale projecten slaat ze alvast haar muzikale vleugels uit. Zo was ze in mei 2019 lid van DeZes, het jeugdpanel van de VRT dat de Koningin Elizabeth Wedstrijd verslaat voor Canvas (televisie) en Klara (radio). Ze beleefde haar deelname als een all-in onderdompeling in de wereld van de media en in de professionele muziekwereld.
Ze liep onder meer stage bij deOrkestakademie o.l.v. Philippe Herreweghe en Edo de Waart. Ook deed ze stage bij de Opéra Royal de Wallonie/Liège (o.l.v. Massimo Zanetti en i.s.m. Jessica Pratt) en ze nam ook deel aan een project met het Orchestre Royal de Chambre de Wallonie (o.l.v. Frank Braley). Verder speelde ze als jong talent op het Arte Amanti Festival en ze maakt ook deel uit van het Arte Amanti Academy Chamber Orchestra waarmee ze reeds concerten gaf in de Opera van Gent en op het festival Arte Amanti. Ze speelde projecten mee met La Camerata IMEP - ook i.s.m. Jodie Devos, Jean-François Chamberlan, George Tudorache - (Cercle Royal Artistique et Littéraire, Université Namur), Lumen Symphonicum, Frascati (BOZAR) etc. Ze speelde orkestprojecten mee in Gent o.l.v Dirk Brossé, Tim Murray ea. met het GTM project o.l.v. Roberto Benzi en i.s.m. Boris Belkin en trad op in Gent (Miry Concertzaal) Tilburg (Tilburg Theater) en Maastricht (Theater aan het Vrijthof). Verder leeft ze zich uit met en in het Gentse Room13 Orchestra rond Yves Meersschaert (i.s.m. Lieven Tavernier, Stijn Meuris, Neeka, Mich Walschaerts (Kommil Foo) ) en ze werkt ook samen met violist Wouter Vandenabeele, bezieler van Olla Vogala en de Karavaan. Haar studiestad Gent blijft haar m.a.w. muzikaal inspireren; ze trad bijvoorbeeld op tijdens de Gentse Feesten (Room13 Orchestra, Deneys en Denys concerten). Met Room13 Orchestra stond ze ook al op de podia van TAZ, Dranouter, Handelsbeurs, Gentse Feesten,... Ze speelde mee met de bands Ides Moon (De Zevende Dag, Record Store Day, Sofar Sounds, Fans of Flanders, PopMonument...) Mocking Jay (Boombalfestival, Dranouter, Begijnhoffeesten...) en met Gilman (Gentse Feesten, winnaar Kunstbende, Imagine...). Daarnaast blijft ze actief in het ensemble Trio belge waarmee ze reeds concerten in België en Frankrijk gaf.
Als soliste streeft Laura een diepe muzikaliteit na, die haar tot de kern van de muziek brengt. In een ensemble vindt ze het dan weer belangrijk om zowel te streven naar evenwicht als naar persoonlijke muzikale expressie. Professioneel zoekt ze oude en nieuwe muziek, klassiek, folk en wereldmuziek te combineren via een interessante mix van projecten. Dat levert een muzikaal interessante kruisbestuiving op waarin ze haar bezieling en spelplezier legt.
Haar liefde voor zang mondde uit in een stage en verdere projecten met het Vlaams Radio Koor o.l.v. Hervé Niquet. Ze deed ook producties met Stéphane Denève en Douglas Boyd. Met het koor trad ze oa. op in de Bijloke, het Concertgebouw Brugge, Flagey en de Filharmonie in Parijs. Ze is vast van plan ook als zangeres haar sporen te (blijven) verdienen.
Intussen geeft ze al een paar jaar vioolinitiatie en sinds september 2018 geeft ze ook lessen viool en groepsmusiceren. Ze vindt het immers belangrijk om de jeugd warm te maken voor die boeiende wereld van de muziek.
Laura (born December 20, 1994) was only 9 years old when she discovered the violin. Wietse Beels (Taurus Quartet), one of Belgium’s talented violinists, first taught her how to play this instrument. Over the next few years, she took lessons with André Delcourte and Saskia Van Keer (Concermaster OVSO). By that time, music already ran through her veins. And after her first performance at the local academy, Laura decided that she would be into music and she trained to be a conservatory student. In June 2017 she completed her violin studies at the Ghent Conservatory. In June 2018 she graduated as a teacher. And she also completed an extra year of violin studies at the IMEP in Namur, that year.
Over the years quite a number of people have proven to be a great source of inspiration. Both at home and abroad she has taken masterclasses with Daniel Hope, Marc Danel, Gilles Millet (Quatuor Danel), David Waterman, Philippe Graffin (at the occasion of the Imuse - Rencontres Musicales Internationales D'Enghien), Petr Holman (Zemlinsky Quartet), Marek Kowalski, Vineta Sareika (Artemis Quartett), Gina Beukes, Céline Di Fabio en Vegard Nilsen. She took singing classes with Rita Piron, Tineke Van Ingelgem and Bart De Kegel, masterclasses with Daniel Ottevaere and Nadine Denize.
Laura feels it is very important to explore her interests in music. That is why she decided to apply for the DeZes Youth Panel in May 2019. Being part of DeZes during this year’s Queen Elisabeth Competition proved an overwhelming all-in musical experience. After a rather intensive media training Laura took the chance to shine as a reporter on both radio and television. But above all she liaised with international violinists and musicians of great renown. The QEC was a great opportunity to live and enjoy the music; at the same time it offered her a chance to study the business world of music and the media behind the scenes.
That is the reason why she is taking (and has taken) part in a number of projects. She did an internship at the deOrkestakademie, conducted by Philippe Herreweghe en Edo de Waart. She also was an intern at the Opéra Royal de Wallonie/Liège, conducted by Massimo Zanetti and she took part in an Orchestre Royal de Chambre de Wallonie production, conducted by Frank Braley. Over the past two years she performed at the Arte Amanti Festival which wants to provide a musical platform for young musicians. She has also performed at the festival since 2017 and she has joined the Arte Amanti Academy Chamber Orchestra for Young Talent with which she also performed at this year’s festival and already in the Opera of Ghent. She joined several orchestras in a number of projects: Camerata IMEP - in collaboration with Jodie Devos, Jean-François Chamberlan, George Tudorache - (Cercle Royal Artistique et Littéraire, Université Namur), Lumen Symphonicum, Frascati (BOZAR) etc. She took part in orchestral projects conducted by Dirk Brossé, Tim Murray and travelled with the GTM project (Roberto Benzi, Boris Belkin) to Ghent (Miry Concertzaal) Tilburg (Tilburg Theater) and Maastricht (Theater aan het Vrijthof).
She is also a member of the Ghent Room 13 Orchestra, founded by Yves Meersschaert and conducted by Frank Vantroyen and she joined violinist Wouter Vandenabeele and De Karavaan, a socially engaged artistic project. In its aftermath she joined Wouter and his crew in Olla Vogala projects, such as Côté Koer (at the Bijloke Muziekcentrum). So the city of Ghent continues to be a source of inspiration (with its Gentse Feesten, the Deneys and Denys concerts, Musika etc.). With Room13 she performed at TAZ, Dranouter, Handelsbeurs, Gentse Feesten,... She played and collaborated with several bands: Ides Moon (De Zevende Dag, Record Store Day, Sofar Sounds, Fans of Flanders, PopMonument...), Mocking Jay (Boombalfestival, Dranouter, Begijnhoffeesten...) and Gilman (Gentse Feesten, winnaar Kunstbende, Imagine...).
In March 2018 Laura enjoyed performing Poulenc’s Stabat Mater with the Vlaams Radio Koor after joining the choir for yet another interesting internship. In the meantime she has rejoined her colleagues for some more projects during which she enjoyed the mastership of Hervé Niquet, Stéphane Denève, Douglas Boyd in the Bijloke, the Concertgebouw Brugge, Flagey and the Filharmonie de Paris. She very much wants to pursue a career as a singer as well; it is one more way of expressing herself as a full-blooded musician.
As a soloist Laura wants to express a deep sense and awareness of music, which touches the very heart of the musical matter. Performing in an ensemble allows her to pursue a perfect balance between individualism and group performance quality. Moreover she is quite keen on being part of this extraordinary crossover between classical music, folk music and world music. She finds it quite fulfilling to be able to explore music in so many ways. That is why, for example, she and a number of friends continue to perform as Trio belge, both in France and Belgium.
